LYDIA

LYDIA.

When the Cortland Contrarian posted a recent article about Dr. Lydia Strowbridge, "Coroner’s Inquest," the name Lydia left a recurring musical echo. We had previously posted an article about Lydia Pinkham and her patent medicine business, and at one time thought about posting a contributor’s article about women’s rights advocate Lydia Maria Child.

Lydia is a Greek name and it is found in the Bible. The name is also found in the clever lyrics written by Yip Harburg and Harold Alen, “Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.” The song is performed by Groucho Marx in the 1939 movie, “At the Circus.” Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4zRe_wvJw8
