   Resolved, That we cause to be levied upon the several towns of the county the sums set opposite each town and for the purpose therein mentioned:

   On motion of Mr. Brown, the report was received and the recommendations thereof adopted.
   Mr. Greene, from the committee on equalization reported that they had distributed the state and county tax as follows:

   On motion of Mr. Brown, said report was received and placed on file.
   On motion of Mr. Brown, the clerk was authorized to procure blank assessment books for the use of the several towns and distribute the same.
   On motion the board adjourned to Monday Dec. 12, at 1:30 P. M.
TWENTY-THIRD DAY, MONDAY, DEC.12.
   Board convened pursuant to adjournment.
   On motion of Mr. Whitmore, the oath to be taken by assessors verifying the assessment rolls was authorized to be printed in the Supervisors Journal together with the statute prescribing the penalty for swearing falsely to said rolls.
   On motion of Mr. McGraw, the compensation allowed supervisors for copying the assessment roll and extending the tax was referred to the committee on Jurisprudence, and on motion of Mr. Greene, Mr. McGraw was added to the committee.
   Mr. Chaplin offered the following:
   Resolved, That the bill of H. L. Bronson, District Attorney, as reported by the committee to settle with the District Attorney and adopted by the board be increased by the sum of $34.31. Lost.
   At 4 o'clock P. M. the board adjourned until 9 A. M. the following morning.
TWENTY-FOURTH DAY, TUESDAY, DEC. 13.
   Board met pursuant to adjournment.
   On motion of Mr. Saunders, the supervisors of the several towns were authorized to procure all the maps and surveys necessary to comply with the provisions of section 9. Chapter 152, Laws of 1878, in relation to the description of land of non-residents and at any time before the collectors of said towns shall have made returns of non- resident taxes of said towns for 1888, and that the supervisor be authorized to add the amendments completed by such maps and surveys to the descriptions of lands of the non residents in the assessment roll of said town and also to add to the taxes on such lands respectively the expenses which may be necessarily incurred in procuring such maps and surveys necessarily required to carry out the provisions of said law.
   On motion of Mr. Lee, it appearing that the salary of the District Attorney had been provided for in the appropriations and county audits too, the extra appropriation was added to the contingent fund.
   On motion of Mr. McGraw, the clerk was authorized to draw an order payable out of the contingent fund for $50, payable to A. L. Carter, for services as janitor.
   On motion of Mr. Greene, the clerk of the board was authorized to draw an order payable to himself for $200, the same to apply on his salary.
   On motion of Mr. Crane, the Superintendent of the Poor was authorized to have a telephone put in the County Alms House, and on motion of Mr. Greene, the Surrogate was authorized to have the same convenience put in his office.
   On motion of Mr. Lee, the vote heretofore taken discontinuing the telephone in the District Attorney's office was rescinded.
   On motion of Mr. Whitmore, the taxes as extended upon the assessment rolls of the several towns were confirmed and warrants were issued to the collectors of such towns for the collection of the same.
   On motion of Mr. Saunders, the chairman and clerk were authorized to request the Senator and Member from this county to use their efforts to procure an amendment to the law of 1886, making the support of indigent soldiers a county charge in all the counties where the poor are supported by the county and not by town.
   The thanks of the board were extended to Mr. A. L. Carter, the janitor.
   On motion of Mr. Greene, the clerk was authorized to draw orders payable out of the contingent fund to D. P. Wallace, G. P. Hollenbeck and G. F. Beaudry for stationery and supplies furnished the board during its session.
   On motion of Mr. McGraw, the avails [sic] of the $4,000 bonds to be issued by the chairman and clerk, be paid to the County Treasurer, and the clerk was authorized to draw all necessary orders for payment of notes given by the committee on repairing Alms House and Court House.
   At 5 o'clock P. M. the board adjourned until 9 o'clock of the following day.
TWENTY-FIFTH DAY, WEDNESDAY, DEC. 14.
   Board convened pursuant to adjournment.
   On motion of Mr. Brown, a vote of thanks was tendered to Jas. Dougherty, Esq. , for the able, efficient and courteous manner in which he has discharged the duties of clerk of the board.
   On motion of Mr. Greene, a vote of thanks was tendered Mr. Whitmore, chairman, for the ability, impartiality and promptness with which he has presided over the deliberations of the board, as well as the gentlemanly bearing and many courtesies extended to the individual members thereof during the session which is now about to close.
   The chairman then addressed the board as follows:
   GENTLEMEN OF THE BOARD: I fully appreciate and must cordially reciprocate the kindly sentiments expressed in the resolution just adopted and I thank you for the cheerful courtesy with which I have been treated as your presiding officer. I think I may safely say that the present session has been one of the pleasantest in the history of Cortland County Boards of Supervisors. I can truthfully assert that you have faithfully discharged your duties with the one and only purpose of promoting the best interests of your constituents and that you may return to your homes in the confident assurance of their approval.
   The time for your final adjournment is at hand, and it is not at all probable that all of us will ever meet again as a Board of Supervisors. Although we may not meet again officially, I trust that we shall meet again socially many a time in the future, with kindly greetings. In conclusion, gentlemen be assured that you have my best wishes for your future prosperity and happiness, and as you pass on down the swift current of the stream of time on life's ceaseless journey, may all that makes life attractive, beautiful and bright, be yours to enjoy.
   On motion of Mr. Wood, the board adjourned sine die.
