CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PEOPLE OF TRUXTON, N. Y.
The State
University of New York Charter Schools Institute voted last Thursday to create a new
charter for an elementary public charter school in Truxton, N.Y. The school
will be established in the former Hartnett Elementary School building.
It seems the
project caused much unhappiness to the Homer Central School Board and Administration. The Cortland Contrarian offers its condolences to the errant
school board. The proud people of the Town of Truxton are better served with a charter
elementary school of their own. Too bad it took five years to plow through the huge stumps and boulders.
Cindy Denkeberger
was quoted as saying: "We feel like we can be a model for other rural
areas in New York State, and keep families in Cortland County who might otherwise
seek schooling elsewhere."
We hope the people
of the Town of Virgil are listening, and planning a charter school of their own.
