SEACHING FOR THE NUMBSKULLS
Who Reconfigured Main Street, Cortland, N. Y.
We have searched for the names of the numbskulls who made fewer parking spaces available at the Cortland post office under contract. We tried looking for them at city hall. None could be found. The persons we found there seemed to be reasonable. Perhaps those numbskulls were hiding. We tried looking under stones and under sewer grates. Same result.
Let’s start with the leading but old question: Why were fewer parking spaces provided in front of the post office? Was one of the prominent sidewalk extensions near Clayton Ave. into Main St. intended as a logistics area? Perhaps a drone pad for deliveries?
At the other post office entrance there is a crossing walk to the other side of Main St. without timed crossing lights. If a picnic area was intended, chairs, umbrellas and waste disposal were omitted. This former parking area stretches to the post office Main St. driveway and eliminates parking spaces, as was mentioned at past public hearings.
At a recent public hearing Mr. James Nichols made an excellent presentation on the Main St. parking situation, especially handicapped parking. How is it currently configured at the post office?
If some city elected official has a reasonable explanation for the elimination of these parking spaces, please post a comment to
this blog for publication. Many people want to know why it was a fiat accompli.
