NORMAL PRINCIPALS.
Hold Their
Semi-annual Meeting in Cortland This Week.
The semi-annual meeting of the principals of the
Normal schools of New York state began this morning in the parlor of the Normal
building. All of the principals were
present except Dr. Wm. J. Milne of the Normal college at Albany. The principals
who are present are Dr. Charles D. McLean of Brockport, Dr. James M. Cassety of
Buffalo, Dr. Francis J. Cheney of Cortland, Dr. Francis B. Palmer of Fredonia,
Dr. John M. Milne of Geneseo, Dr. Frank S. Capen of New Paltz, Dr. James M.
Milne of Oneonta, Dr. Edward A. Sheldon of Oswego, Prof. Edward N. Jones of Plattsburg,
Dr. Thomas B. Stowell of Potsdam, and Institute Conductor A. C. McLachlan, who
has been appointed principal of the newly established school at Jamaica which
has not yet been built.
The
presiding officer for a number of years has been Dr. Sheldon, who is the senior
member of the council. The secretary has also for some years been Dr. F. B.
Palmer. The questions discussed at these gatherings are those which have
special regard to the interests of Normal schools. The sessions will continue
through to-morrow, and to-morrow evening Dr. Cheney will tender a reception to
his associates at The Kremlin [hotel], at which the local board, the faculty
and a few other friends will be the guests.

ENJOYABLE RECEPTION.
Given by Dr. Cheney
at the Kremlin to the Normal Principals.
There was a very delightful
gathering last night in the pleasant parlors of The Kremlin, where Dr. F. J.
Cheney tendered a reception to the principals of the several Normal schools of
this state who were holding their semi-annual meeting with the Cortland school.
The other guests of the evening were the local board, the faculty and a few
other friends, making a company of about fifty in all. Cordial greeting was
given by Dr. Cheney and Miss Hendrick representing the faculty and by Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. H. Clark, representing the local board. It was a gathering of friends,
nearly all of whom were well known to each other and it was a most enjoyable
social affair. At about 10 o'clock an adjournment was taken to the dining room
where coffee, cake and ice cream were served.
