Recorded March 10, 2009 at WSKG studios.
Rick Starmer, a piano jazz virtuoso, lives in Cortland. He performs at Hope Lake Lodge, the Community Restaurant, the Blue Frog Coffee House, and at various private events. Rick attended Crouse College School of Music at Syracuse University. He studied under pianist George Pappastavrou and Dr. Brian Israel. He released and marketed three memorable CD's: Because I Can't Paint, Naked Man, and No Such Thing As Time.
The latter CD was recorded at the Homer Center for the Arts. It contains his own music as well as classical favorites. No Such Thing As Time has several original Rick Starmer compositions, such as Cinnamon, My Italian Heart and Sunrise Rain. Missing on this CD is his composition Kayla [at] Six, which is our favorite. Kayla Six may be heard on the above YouTube video, near the middle of the performance.
Rick's compositions are mood-provoking, dreamy and inspiring. His timing--his pause--carries the right touch and produces the right effect.
When Marian McPartland (Piano Jazz, PBS) passed away on August 20, we think she passed her magic wand to Rick Starmer and gave him some words of encouragement.
