PERSPECTIVE.
This is not
an argument against anyone, anything, or either political party. Just a few
observations.
Not all of my
friends are Liberals; a few Conservatives are hiding in there somewhere. Almost
all are looking to the coming elections for some kind of change. Liberals focus
on Trump, Conservatives on Liberals.
Liberals hope
to win the presidency, keep the house and, at least make gains in the senate.
Conservatives hope to keep the presidency, the senate, and to make gains in the
house.
No matter
what mixture of the above takes place, only short range policy and programs
will be affected. Anyone looking for elimination or improvement in the major problems
that pre-date 2016 will be disappointed.
Our freshly
elected, or reelected pols are not going to endorse studies that seek to fully
understand the nature and source of problems. They already know the political
power leverage, and import on their wallets, of every problem up for
discussion.
A few
examples of long festering problems: Our per capita cost of health care,
the world’s highest, and our lousy results will continue; K-12 education more
expensive with uncompetitive results; inequality within our society will
continue and attempts to fix it with transfers of dollars from rich to poor
will continue to fail.
A preview of
coming attractions can be seen in NY State, where the governor, Andrew Cuomo,
has asked a small group of billionaires to advise him on how to improve the
state’s economy. They exercised common sense, and you will likely agree with
their recommendations. The howls from pols in Albany and NYC can be heard in
Connecticut.
