STATUE OF THE HONEST POLITICIAN

Paul Bunyan statue at Portland, Oregon.

STATUE OF THE HONEST POLITICIAN.

The City of Cortland plans to make an attractive “Gateway” from U. S. Interstate 81, Exit 11, to downtown, and toward that end the city has obtained working capital, grants and the promise of low interest loans.

The staff of the Cortland Contrarian again proposes a radical idea: a 30 ft. high bronze statue of The Honest Politician at the old gas station located near I-81, Exit 11. It will be an in-your-face, one-of-a-kind statue without rival. A towering colossus at the eastern gate of the city would, in our opinion, be an advertisement to attract the curious and disbelieving pilgrims who are traveling to Syracuse or Watertown to watch the launching of REAPER military drones, or traveling to Florida to visit Ripley’s Believe It or Not, or traveling to peaceful Baltimore, or traveling to the National Zoo and the Capitol in Washington, D. C., or similar places of raw amusement.

We are certain that The Honest Politician will divert travelers who normally visit the Paul Bunyan statue in Portland, Oregon, or the old Trump Casino in Atlantic City. Why? People will say that an honest politician can’t be found anywhere except in Cortland. They would be referring to the statue, of course.

The Cortland Contrarian proposes, the City of Cortland disposes; and thus the building of a gateway will begin with new water and sewer lines. After this needed update of infrastructure, the city can advertise proposals for a statue with our blessing.
