A QUESTION

A QUESTION.

I’ve been asking friends and relatives to tell me what global problem is the most serious, in its potential impact on them. The answers surprised me in that almost everyone cited a different problem. Terrorism, climate change, poverty, Republicans, Democrats, and please insert your choice here…......Unmentioned, so far: corruption, and growing mountains of debt worldwide.

The question is: Will these problems be better managed under our current system of crony capitalism and government by special interests, or by genuine capitalism and true democracy?

For those less familiar with these terms:

Capitalism is a system of creative destruction wherein all those using resources (labor, energy, buildings, money) to provide goods and services to customers must compete in providing the most value at the least cost. The less efficient lose out.

Crony capitalism is a system wherein the ‘competitors’/special interests seek advantages through government rather than in the market place. Non-business interests, such as public, and private sector unions, use this system as well. The bribery involved has been declared ‘legal’ by the recipients of the money.

True democracy is a system of government in which elected representatives serve only the interests of voters and citizens.

Given the obvious choice, why is it that almost everyone of us will go to the polls and vote in accordance with our party’s propaganda (paid for by special interests) and, coincidentally, vote for a continuation of our current system?

Note: I will, almost undoubtedly, receive a tortured reply explaining why we must continue to vote against the ‘other’ party, if only for a little longer. In fact, most of my friends and relatives will do exactly that, explaining that they must continue to vote against those b-----ds until somebody else changes the system.
